Hatchery Access Road

Fishing Lewiston Lake

The combination of a productive lake, a section of stream managed for fly fishing only, and a river that supports a population of resident trout that are augmented with anadromous fish, make the Upper Trinity watershed in Northern California an anglers destination with many choices. Lewiston Lake, from which the Trinity River flows, fishes good all year except following a winter storm. From November through March, trout feed mainly on midges, but the lake blossoms in May with consistent may fly hatches. These last through October providing excellent dry fly and nymph fishing to planted Rainbow and Brook trout, and naturally spawned Browns.

Eagle Lake Rainbows have been recently planted and account for the growing number of larger Rainbows.
